City Host Policy

Last updated 20 January 2026

For the purposes of this policy, “British Alumni Network” refers to the British Alumni Network's Central Team / Management (the governance), unless stated otherwise.

Under this policy:

 • City Host appointments remain solely at the discretion of British Alumni Network.

 • The maximum term for serving as a City Host shall not exceed twelve (12) months in total. This duration may be non-consecutive but cannot cumulatively exceed 12 months over any period.

 • If a City Host resigns or leaves before completing their term, they may be reinstated only where (a) the resignation was submitted with at least 15 days’ advance notice, and (b) reinstatement is approved in writing by the British Alumni Network. Any reinstatement will be for the remainder of the City Host’s remaining eligible tenure, subject to the maximum tenure rule (a City Host may serve up to 12 months in total, non-consecutive, and cannot cumulatively exceed 12 months overall). Reinstatement is not automatic and remains at the discretion of British Alumni Network.

 • City Hosts can nominate the alumni for AND Honours (https://www.britishalumni.org/and-honours).

 • During their active term as a City Host, a City Host is not eligible to be nominated, shortlisted, or awarded under AND Honours. Eligibility resumes only after their City Host term has ended.

 • City Hosts, during their term, can not be awarded the Certificate of Accomplishment related to the Star Networker.

 • Networking score of the City Hosts wouldn’t be counted towards the University Networking Index™ table (https://www.britishalumni.org/index), only the participation score to be counted.

 • All official announcements must be published first through British Alumni Network’s official channels (website, official social handles and/or other official channels). City Hosts may amplify and localise messaging only after the official release, or simultaneously when provided an approved comms pack and posting time. City Hosts must not publish official announcements ahead of official channels.

 • City Hosts must follow and comply with all applicable British Alumni Network policies, guidelines, and standards (including communications, conduct, data/privacy, and event operations), as updated from time to time. Where guidance differs, British Alumni Network’s direction will prevail.

 • The city is treated as one community; City Hosts within the same city / defined region  must coordinate and must not represent separate sub-regions or operate conflicting communications. In case of disagreement among the City Hosts in the defined region, City Hosts must pause any potentially sensitive actions (announcements, venue commitments, etc.) and escalate to British Alumni Network for resolution.

 • City Hosts operate under the governance of British Alumni Network. British Alumni Network may request updates, basic event records and clarifications at any time, and may suspend or revoke the City Host role in case of policy breach or reputational/compliance risk.
